Ian Pemberton – Principal

Ian established P&L Corporate Communications in May 2007 after a 27 year career as an editor and reporter. With impressive local and international media contacts, he provides clients with significant opportunities to influence the debate. Ian has extensive expertise in corporate transactions, IPOs, communications strategy, and issues management.

Specialising in business and financial markets, Ian was Bureau Chief at Dow Jones, news editor at Reuters and finance editor at Australian Associated Press, with postings in New York and the Canberra press gallery. Between 2000 and April 2007 he led a reporting and editing team at Dow Jones Newswires, developing news and feature articles for subscribers and The Wall Street Journal.

Michelle Innis

MIchelle INnIs - senior consultant

Michelle is a senior communications consultant with extensive business and media contacts. She was previously The New York Times correspondent in Australia, worked at The Australian Financial Review, wrote for The Sydney Morning Herald Money section and did a stint on The Daily Telegraph.

She has written for The Far Eastern Economic Review and covered economics, State and Federal budgets, and bond and money markets for AAP-Reuters. Michelle worked at Macquarie Bank, as public relations manager, from 1994 to 2000. She also worked in Hong Kong, reporting for The South China Morning Post, and London, writing for Fleet Street newspapers. Michelle has excellent writing and editing skills, and news judgment.

Philip Baker


Phil is the former Associate Editor at The Australian Financial Review who joined P&L Corporate in January 2018 as a Senior Consultant. As a former financial markets trader, he penned a daily column for the paper and a personal investment column in the "Smart Money" section of the AFRWeekend. He could also be heard on stations 2UE and ABC Radio Sydney, and seen on ABC TV's Business Breakfast show, Nine’s Weekend TODAY and Sky News Business.

Phil will provide corporate strategic advice to P&L Corporate's blue chip clients in a range of sectors including financial services, private equity, healthcare, energy, and food.

Karen Cooper

Karen Cooper – Senior Consultant

Karen is a senior corporate communications consultant providing strategic advice to financial services and property sector clients. She joined P&L Corporate in 2008 and has extensive media and business contacts, a solid knowledge of the Asia Pacific corporate scene, and strong writing skills.

Karen began her career at The Age in Melbourne before moving to London, working for The Independent and The Daily Telegraph. She spent seven years in Hong Kong, working as business news editor at The South China Morning Post from 1995-2001.
